After earning her medical degree, Dr. Avila completed her residency in Ophthalmology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She then pursued a highly competitive two-year fellowship in cosmetic and reconstructive oculofacial plastic surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Accredited by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), this fellowship provided extensive training in advanced eyelid surgery, brow rejuvenation, orbital surgery, lacrimal disorders, facial reconstruction, and facial aesthetics.
Dr. Avila is among an elite group of fewer than 700 surgeons nationwide who have earned membership in the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and has authored numerous scientific publications while lecturing at both national and international meetings.
